Who it helps
Somatic work
Adults whose body reacts before they have time to think, who feel numb or distant from it, or who find that talking alone does not reach it.
Somatic work begins with noticing: the weight of your feet, the contact of the chair, the temperature of the room. We go in tiny steps and stay near what is easy to feel. You may keep your eyes open, and nothing requires lying down, special clothing or being touched.
How it is done
Body-based approaches to trauma, taken in small steps
Noticing what is steady before what is not
Movement, breath or stillness, as you prefer
No physical touch

Good to know
What this is not, how often, and how it is paid
What this is not
It is not yoga, massage or bodywork, and it asks no flexibility or poses. It is not a replacement for care from a physician for a physical symptom.
How long and how often
Somatic work usually runs alongside the other work. We do not promise a number of sessions, and your clinician sets the pace with you.
How it is paid
You pay for each session at its end. You receive a written estimate before you start and a monthly receipt for your plan.

Questions
About somatic work
Will I be touched?
No. Brume does not use touch. Everything is done by words and by your own attention, and you can say no to any exercise.
What if I feel nothing in my body?
That is common, and it is a place to start. We begin with the parts that are easiest to notice, such as your hands or your feet, and we do not push.
What if noticing my body makes things worse?
Then we stop, and we look at the room together. Learning to stop is part of the work, and it is why we go in small steps.
Do I need to wear anything special?
No. Come as you are, and wear what is comfortable.
Ready to take a first step?
Write to us and say what pace would feel right. That is enough to begin.
