Questions

What people ask before they begin

If your question is not here, write to us.

Do you take my insurance?

Brume is out of network and does not bill insurance plans. It does not take Medicare or Medicaid. You pay for each session yourself, and you can ask for a monthly receipt to send to your plan.

What is a superbill, and can I use it?

A superbill is an itemized monthly receipt that you can send to your plan, which may reimburse part of the cost. It carries a diagnosis code that your insurer can see, and your plan decides whether it pays anything.

What is a good faith estimate?

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what your care will cost before you start. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.

How much does it cost, and how do fees work?

Your fee is given to you in writing before you start, and it does not change without notice. You pay at the end of each session by card. The page on how fees work has the details.

Can I use an HSA or FSA card?

Yes. Both work for sessions, and the monthly receipt may be what your plan administrator asks for.

What happens in the first session?

We talk about the present, you choose where to sit, and we try a short grounding practice before anything else. We do not ask for details of what happened.

Do I have to talk about what happened?

No. You decide whether and when to say more, and many sessions include no details of the past.

How often and for how long?

Sessions are 50 minutes and usually weekly at first. Your clinician sets the pace with you, and there is no promised number of sessions.

Are you licensed where I live?

Rocío is a licensed clinical social worker in New York and sees clients in person at the Albany office.

What do I do in a crisis?

Call or text 988, any time. In an emergency, call 911. Brume is not monitored around the clock, and a message to us is not read right away.

What is confidential, and what are the limits?

What you say in session is private, and we share it only as the law allows. The limits are a serious risk of harm to you or to someone else, a court order, and reports that the law requires of clinicians. We explain them in the first session.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for 24 hours' notice to move a session. If a hard week means you cannot come, tell us, and we will find another time.

Still have a question?
